Getting Cozy with a Book for the Holidays

Children, especially, should have a pile of seasonal books to read.

A few extra days off work. A few meals with the extended family. A few extra moments of snuggle time on the couch with my kiddos. If I were Julie Andrews, I would belt, “These are a few of my favorite things.” Unfortunately I don’t have a voice like hers.

What I do have is a plethora of beautiful Christmas Books. We keep them in a box and only pull them out for the holidays. Somewhere between the boxes of ornaments and the Chevy Chase-style tangle of lights, we rediscover this box every year and dive in. Stories of all sorts entertain us with their snowy wonderland pictures: Silver Spurs the Tiny Elf, Baby Jesus, Rudolph and Frosty are all included. Some belonged to my parents when they were children and have wonderful calligraphy scripted salutations in them, “To Marion, Christmas 1934, Love Aunt Jeanne.”
